The Nine Types of Intelligence

psych-quotes:

1. Naturalist Intelligence (“Nature Smart”)

Designates the human ability to discriminate among living things (plants, animals) as well as sensitivity to other features of the natural world (clouds, rock configurations).  This ability was clearly of value in our evolutionary past as hunters, gatherers, and farmers; it continues to be central in such roles as botanist or chef.  It is also speculated that much of our consumer society exploits the naturalist intelligences, which can be mobilized in the discrimination among cars, sneakers, kinds of makeup, and the like.

2. Musical Intelligence (“Musical Smart”)

Musical intelligence is the capacity to discern pitch, rhythm, timbre, and tone.  This intelligence enables us to recognize, create, reproduce, and reflect on music, as demonstrated by composers, conductors, musicians, vocalist, and sensitive listeners. Interestingly, there is often an affective connection between music and the emotions; and mathematical and musical intelligences may share common thinking processes.  Young adults with this kind of intelligence are usually singing or drumming to themselves.  They are usually quite aware of sounds others may miss.

The Secrets of Success

psych-quotes:

onlinecounsellingcollege:

1. Pay attention to your thoughts as they determine your future: Always be positive and develop a “can do” mind set. Steer clear of negative people who would seek to undermine your commitment to your goals. Focus on success, and not on failure.

2. Be concrete and specific when you dream and set goals: Write down the steps that will lead you there, then track your progress and make changes if you need to.

3. Take action: Goals are just words until you actually do something. Every day take a step that moves you in the right direction.

4. Be a life-long learner: Get more training, take a class and acquire news skills. Keep reading widely to expand your knowledge base.

5. Be tenacious, persistent and don’t give up:Hard work is behind every winner’s success. There are no easy answers and no free lunch.

I really feel like i’m the only person in the world that did not know this.
I kept googling to see if it was a hoax, but there’s more stories crediting this rather than denying it. And I know Evanna always said JK saved her life but I thought she meant it in a grateful for the acting career sentiment. She is cited on her wiki page

“For two years from the age of 11, Lynch suffered from anorexia. During this time, Rowling sent her letters of encouragement; Lynch has described her as being “like a counselor”. After expressing her desire to act in the films, Rowling encouraged her that in order to do so, she needed to be well. Lynch cites these letters from Rowling as why she was able to recover.”

Who knows if this photo is actually real, but Rowling did in fact help Evanna get better and she ended up playing the most perfect Luna Lovegood.

That’s a pretty fantastic story.

Lady Crescent - Prelude

It was 12 midnight and she was still awake; Minnie was in front of her computer with her browser having 19 tabs open, a tab for each of her classmate’s Facebook profile. She loves updating herself with what her classmates are up to and what they do everyday. This is one of the lady’s secret pleasures.

Minerva Delli was a very pretty woman. Her long, black hair had been the envy of all the girls at her school and a pigtail to the right tied with a yellow ribbon was her signature look. She was a smart woman yet she had no friends. Her only social life was the Internet, and she was satisfied with it.

Minnie smiled to herself as she read through all the updates that she was seeing. She always spent her nights looking at her classmates’ photos and when she liked a photo so much, she would save a copy for herself.

One night when she was browsing through her classmates’ profiles, she was suddenly redirected to an unfamiliar site. The page read:

"As the moon finishes three quarters of its cycle,  a new moon is bound to appear. You shall be under the influence of the  warning crescent and only then can you act through its powers."

Puzzled, Minnie closed her browser only to see it open again with two tabs open, her classmate Lisa’s profile and a Wikipedia article of Blade. She closed the window, and to her irritation she slept earlier that night.

As Minnie went to school, she overheard a conversation.

"Did you hear the news Amy?" one girl said.

"What news?" the other girl replied.

"A senior from this school died last night. My cousin told me that his next-door neighbor throat was cut with a knife by a thief that entered their house. My cousin said that the girl was a student here."

"That’s terrible! Was thief caught?"

"Unfortunately no. I feel sorry for her family though. I believe you’ve heard her name before, it was Lisa, she’s pretty popular."

In shock, Minnie stopped walked walking and went numb.
